Women's Day started in New York in the year 1908, at that time women present there gathered in large numbers and took out a march demanding to reduce the time in their jobs. After this, in the year 1910, Clara Jetkin suggested to celebrate this day internationally during an international conference of working women. About 100 working women from 17 countries were present in this conference, all these women supported Clara Zetkin's suggestion. After this, in the year 1911, for the first time on March 19, this day was celebrated simultaneously in many countries. In this way it was the first International Women's Day. But till now no day was fixed to celebrate it.
After this, during the First World War in 1917, the women of Russia protested for food and peace (Bread and Peace) after being fed up. This protest was so organized that Emperor Nikos was forced to leave his post and after that women also got the right to vote here. The day the Russian women started this strike was February 28 and in the Gregorian calendar it was March 8, since then International Women's Day was celebrated on March 8.
Despite all this, it got official recognition many years later in 1975, from the same year it was decided by the United Nations to celebrate it with a theme. Its first theme was "Celebrating the Past and Planning for the Future".
